Les Paul 100th: A Music Celebration Announces Lineup for August 6th ConcertJuly 2, 2015 by Les Paul Foundation
The Les Paul 100th concert takes place at 5pm on Thursday, August 6th, 2015 in Delafield, Wisconsin’s Naga-Waukee Park. The fundraiser for the Waukesha County Museum, home of The Wizard of Waukesha exhibit, is co-sponsored by the Waukesha Rotary Club. Held rain or shine, the outdoor festival will feature local and national musicians, a guitar strum-along, and displays.
The All-Star Guitar Band led by Greg Koch and the Tone Controls will headline the festival. Special guests will include singer/songwriter/rocker Willy Porter, Gibson Guitar signature artist Johnny A and Nashville’s hottest blues/rock session player JD Simo.
Also performing are Waukesha natives Sam Llanas (co-founder of the BoDeans) and Chris Hanson. Hanson and Robin Pluer will offer a Les Paul & Mary Ford tribute. The Guitars for Vets Five-Star Band and Wisconsin’s 2015 Les Paul Launchpad winning student band also will perform.
All attendees who play guitar – beginners to experts – are encouraged to bring their instruments for a guitar strum-along at 5:30pm. There will be a secure lock-up area to store guitars. Waukesha’s White House of Music will provide free guitar lessons.
The museum will show Les Paul Treasures from its collection of items owned by Les and now part of the museum’s permanent collection.
Tom Constable, executive director of the Waukesha County Museum, comments, “We are thrilled to be hosting this festival as a fundraiser for the museum, thanks to the cooperation of the Waukesha Rotary Club and the Waukesha BluesFest. We’re hoping that the Les Paul 100th will raise awareness – and dollars – to make the museum and Les Paul’s exhibit better than ever.”
Greg Koch, musical director of the All-Star Guitar Band, says, “This festival showcases everything that Les was about: creativity, invention, intellectual curiosity, and above all, music. Everyone making music today is completely indebted to Les. Come to the Les Paul 100th to tip your hat to one of the finest minds of all time. There will be a lot of love and appreciation shining through.”
Richard Kobriger of the Waukesha Rotary Club says, “Partnering with the Museum to properly celebrate this milestone made perfect sense. This is a great collaboration we’re most proud to support. We hope Les Paul fans will enjoy the park and come back for more music at the BluesFest.”
The Les Paul 100th takes place the night before Waukesha BluesFest, whose headliners are Rick Derringer on Friday, August 7 and Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band on Saturday, August 8.
Tickets for the Les Paul 100th are $25 and available at waukeshabluesfest.com or 800-901-2334. All proceeds benefit the Waukesha County Museum, and a portion of the ticket fee is tax deductible.
